Employee, Labor Health and Safety Specialist II (Manufacturing)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, US; onsite. The position is open to applicants who can work in or relocate to Detroit, but relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $78,000–$100,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Support the development and implementation of safety and ergonomics programs for the Detroit campus.
• Provide technical, administrative, and educational support for plant-level safety policies, programs, and initiatives.
• Update safety and industrial hygiene policies and procedures and support compliance with company and governmental requirements.
• Conduct plant safety and health inspections, audits, and corrective-action activities.
• Develop and deliver safety training with Training Center staff, including orientation, regulatory programs, hazard recognition, powered industrial trucks, and crane and hoist safety.
• Investigate near misses and injuries, perform ergonomic job evaluations and risk assessments, and evaluate new processes and equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of related experience, associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience, or 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 1–2 years of related experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills across organizational levels.
• Problem-solving analysis and conflict-resolution skills.
• Integrity, credibility, and confidentiality.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship and existing visa holders are not accepted.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding of ergonomic principles.
• Safety certifications recognized by NSC, ASSE, or ASCE.
