Commercial Analyst (Distillates)

Location: Westferry, London, United Kingdom. Relocation and expatriate assignments will not be considered. Employment visa sponsorship is unavailable, and applicants on time-limited visa status will not be considered.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain distillates supply-demand balances across USGC, ARA, Singapore, and other global markets.
• Track refinery operations, outages, yields, trade flows, arbitrage economics, freight, blending opportunities, spreads, and market structure.
• Build and maintain Python-based analytical tools, models, dashboards, scenario frameworks, stress tests, and trading signals.
• Support term deals, arbitrage strategies, inventory positioning, hedging, derivatives analysis, and structured trade ideas.
• Present market views, trade rationale, and performance summaries to traders, senior leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams on data pipelines, automation, system enhancements, and process modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 5–10 years of experience in refined products or distillates commercial analytics, trading support, or market analysis within an oil major, trading house, or commodity firm.
• Deep knowledge of distillates fundamentals, trade flows, pricing, blending, product specifications, refinery operations, yields, crude diet, and cracking economics.
• Knowledge of hedging strategies, swaps, futures, options, spreads, VaR concepts, econometric analysis, statistical modeling, forecasting, scenario analysis, and backtesting.
• Experience with Python, pandas, NumPy, SQL, VBA, advanced Excel, API integration, Power Query, Power BI or Tableau, and energy trading and risk management systems.
• Applicants must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without employer visa sponsorship and must not require time-limited visa status.

Nice to have

• Experience at a major energy company or independent trading house, including both physical and paper distillates markets.
• Exposure to renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, petrochemicals, LCFS/RIN strategies, and energy-transition impacts on demand.
• Experience with cross-barrel analytics, remote sensing, AIS and ship tracking, satellite inventory data, or key global pricing hubs.
• Familiarity with R, MATLAB, C++, Endur, RightAngle, Allegro, Platts, Argus, OPIS, Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, Kpler, Vortexa, ClipperData, EIA, or IEA data.
