Renewable Forecast Meteorologist

Location: Hybrid in Taylor, Texas; on-site at least 2–3 days per week, with remote work required from a Texas residence

Salary: $94,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop short-term wind and solar weather forecasts and assess their impact on renewable generation and load.
• Monitor fronts, cloud cover, wind, precipitation, severe weather, and icing potential, communicating material changes to System Operations.
• Collaborate with load forecasting, system operations, resource forecasting, and renewable forecast vendors.
• Gather and analyze meteorological data from public and private sources and calculate forecast error metrics.
• Maintain tools that visualize current and future weather conditions and support mid- and long-term renewable outlooks.
• Prepare seven-day weather discussions and respond to management and executive reporting requests.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 5 years of job-related experience beyond degree requirements and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in operational meteorology and weather risk analysis.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Expertise in meteorology, forecasting models, weather data analysis, and professional communication.
• Ability to work on-site in Taylor, Texas at least 2–3 days per week and perform remote work from a Texas residence.

Nice to have

• Experience with solar and wind forecasting techniques.
• Computer programming experience with Python and AI tools.
• At least 2 years of experience with power-system grid operations and assessing weather impacts on load.
• Master’s degree in Meteorology or a related field.
