Energy Meteorologist or Senior Energy Meteorologist

Location: Hybrid, with work performed remotely and onsite in Charlotte, North Carolina, after onboarding. The role requires lawful authorization to work in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship.

What you will do

• Develop operational weather forecasts for hirify.global jurisdictions and produce hourly forecasts used in short-term load forecasting.
• Analyze weather models and data to prepare operational reports, daily outlooks, seasonal forecasts, and high-impact weather risk assessments.
• Monitor load forecast performance and publish hourly forecasts supporting generation dispatch, power trading, and natural gas trading.
• Provide weather forecasts and real-time updates during hurricanes, severe storms, windstorms, winter storms, and other critical events.
• Support pre-storm outage and restoration-resource modeling, wildfire forecasting, climate-related work, data requests, and enterprise data analysis.
• Communicate weather, load, outage, and forecast risks to leaders and cross-functional teams during routine operations and storm conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of related experience for the Energy Meteorologist level; at least 5 years for the Senior Energy Meteorologist level.
• Ability to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Experience or knowledge in weather forecasting, numerical weather prediction models, statistical analysis, and gridded atmospheric datasets.
• Strong analytical, communication, prioritization, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Availability for weekday work and rotating weekend and holiday support.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Emergency Management, or a related field.
• American Meteorological Society Certified Consulting Meteorologist designation.
• Experience with energy, trading, renewable energy, power systems, commodities markets, or load, wind, and solar generation forecasting.
• Experience using artificial neural networks, support vector machines, machine learning, regression techniques, Python, MATLAB, R, GrADS, or similar tools.
