Utilities Technician (Mechanical Maintenance)

Location: Manchester Plant, Trafford Park, Manchester, United Kingdom; onsite day-based role from 7am to 3pm with a 1-in-4 on-call rota and occasional weekend maintenance.

Salary: £33,232.68 starting pay; £35,520.68 at Level 2.1; £38,400.44 at Level 2.2.

What you will do

• Operate and maintain site utility systems, including cooling towers, HVAC, glycol chillers, exhaust fans, pumps, motors, and related mechanical equipment.
• Execute planned maintenance and defect management to improve equipment reliability and performance.
• Investigate equipment failures and process issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Maintain technical standards and use performance data to drive continuous improvement.
• Prepare permits, conduct risk assessments, and safely supervise third-party contractors.
• Coach apprentices and support technical capability development across the wider team.

Requirements

• Time-served mechanical or process apprenticeship, or equivalent technical experience.
• Strong mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault-finding skills.
• Experience with AHUs, cooling towers, water chillers, glycol systems, pumps, motors, fans, and associated mechanical equipment.
• Proven root cause analysis capability, good computer literacy, and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, communicate effectively, and maintain high standards.
• Continuous right to work in the UK from the first day of employment without sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• IOSH qualification and permit-to-work experience, including work at height, confined space, construction, and hot work permits.
• MEWP, lifting and slinging, or Legionella awareness qualifications.
• Experience managing subcontractors or leading reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
