TL;DR
Senior Accountant (US Firm Accounting Operations) (Accounting/Private Markets): Preparing and analyzing journal entries, account reconciliations, audit deliverables, and accounting support for Carlyle's consolidated entities with an accent on complex transactions, accounting guidance, and high-volume financial information. Focus on investigating reconciliation issues, implementing operational procedures, supporting SOX controls and audits, and guiding Staff Accountants.

Location: Washington, DC; in-office 4 days per week

Salary: $110,000–$115,000 base salary annually, plus potential eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive program.

What you will do

  • Prepare and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and related accounting support for consolidated entities.
  • Review Staff Accountant work, approve routine activities within established thresholds, and escalate complex or judgmental matters.
  • Investigate unusual balances, missing transactions, aged reconciling items, and other account issues; propose corrective actions.
  • Support new and non-routine transaction accounting by translating Accounting Policy guidance into entries, reconciliations, procedures, and training.
  • Prepare audit and leadership reports, support quarterly and annual reviews, and adhere to SOX controls, firm policies, and service agreements.
  • Coach and onboard Staff Accountants, coordinate with stakeholders and Accounts Payable, and review voucher coding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; a business-related degree with relevant accounting experience is acceptable.
  • 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry, including independent preparation and analysis of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial information.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals covering accruals, contingencies, prepaid expenses, receivables, and payables.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; advanced Excel skills are preferred, and substantial work will involve Excel and PeopleSoft.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and prioritization skills, with strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • Ability to work in the Washington, DC office 4 days per week.

  • CPA candidacy.
  • Private equity or financial services experience.
  • Experience reviewing others' work, mentoring junior accountants, or performing complex accounting analysis.
