TL;DR
Core Design Engineer (Nuclear Engineering): Designing performant and manufacturable reactor cores through multiphysics simulations, requirements analysis, technical documentation, and collaboration with fabrication engineers, with an accent on neutronic, thermal hydraulic, material, mechanical, and economic trade-offs. Focus on modeling core performance, validating and verifying requirements, translating stakeholder needs into system requirements, and developing advanced fission reactor designs.

Location: Remote within the United States, with travel to the Santa Clara, CA headquarters twice per quarter and in-person onboarding for the first two weeks. Applicants must meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable export control laws.

Salary: $130,000–$190,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design performant and manufacturable reactor cores while balancing neutronic, thermal hydraulic, material, mechanical, and economic considerations.
  • Model core performance over time using multiphysics simulations and first-principles approaches.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into clear system functional requirements.
  • Perform analyses to validate and verify core requirements and provide technical feedback to methods development teams.
  • Prepare technical reports and design documentation using modern tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with fabrication engineers and cross-functional teams to mature reactor core designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in nuclear engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary reactor core design.
  • Experience with an object-oriented programming language such as Python or C++.
  • Experience with neutronic, thermal hydraulic, and material analyses.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Eligibility as a U.S. person may be required because of U.S. export control laws.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of fast reactor core design, fuel cycle optimization, ternary fuels, or ternary fuel cycles.
  • Experience with CI/CD computing environments.
  • Experience with Monte Carlo or deterministic neutronics tools.
  • Experience with reactor systems codes, fuel analysis, or fuel performance software.
  • Fluency in Python.
