TL;DR
Fuels Engineer 4 (Nuclear) (fuel thermal-mechanical analysis, neutronics, and multiphysics): Developing, qualifying, and deploying advanced methods for next-generation light-water reactor fuel and reload safety analysis with an accent on fuel performance modeling, safety margins, and licensing support. Focus on leading benchmarking and QA activities, integrating thermal-mechanical methods with neutronics and thermal-hydraulics, and solving complex multiphysics analysis challenges.
Location: Remote within the contiguous United States; applicants must live beyond a 30-mile radius of a physical NuScale office.
Salary: $127,104–$153,401 annually; full range $113,955–$178,237 annually.
Company
develops advanced small modular reactor technology and related nuclear engineering solutions.
What you will do
- Serve as a technical authority for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis, including gap conductance, cladding strain, fatigue, creep collapse, pellet-cladding interaction, and performance margins.
- Develop, qualify, benchmark, and apply advanced fuel performance modeling methods for next-generation light-water reactor fuel.
- Perform safety analysis calculations and independently evaluate operating and design-basis-event limits and margins.
- Integrate fuel thermal-mechanical methods with neutronics, subchannel analysis, system thermal-hydraulics, and other multiphysics frameworks.
- Lead software benchmarking, qualification, quality assurance documentation, interface definition, and change control.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to licensing reports, license applications, and regulatory interactions.
Requirements

- At least 8 years of directly relevant, full-time engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing engineering design processes for fuel thermal-mechanical analysis and fuel design.
- Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
- Ability to develop engineering reports, calculations, studies, requirements, system descriptions, and licensing documentation.
- Ability to work independently on complex technical problems and collaborate across thermal-hydraulics, nuclear design, code development, engineering, and operations functions.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience with neutronics, transient analysis, core design, and related safety analysis.
- Knowledge of next-generation light-water reactor fuel designs and analysis methods.
Culture & Benefits
- Full-time employment with an annual target pay range of $127,104–$153,401.
- Work within a safety-focused nuclear engineering organization.
- Responsibilities include adherence to 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 quality assurance requirements.
- National and local travel may be required.
- Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
