Описание вакансии
Текст:
TL;DR
Fuels Engineer 2 (Nuclear SMR): Building and maintaining fuel thermal-mechanical models and performing licensed fuel performance evaluations for SMR design, reloads, and safety analysis with an accent on fuel behavior, neutronics, and thermal-hydraulic integration. Focus on evaluating cladding strain, pellet-cladding interaction, core physics inputs, cycle-specific reload analyses, and engineering documentation for the licensing basis.
Location: Remote within the contiguous United States; remote work is available to individuals living beyond a 30-mile radius of a physical NuScale office.
Target pay range: $87,107–$105,129 annually. Full pay range: $78,096–$122,149 annually.
Company
develops small modular reactor (SMR) products and their associated engineering and licensing bases.
What you will do
- Build, update, and maintain fuel thermal-mechanical models for the SMR product design and licensing basis.
- Perform licensed fuel thermal-mechanical evaluations covering cladding strain, pellet-cladding mechanical interaction, gap conductance, dimensional changes, stress and strain behavior, and end-of-life margins.
- Prepare cycle-specific thermal-mechanical outputs for reload core design and safety analysis, maintaining consistency with thermal-hydraulic conditions, neutronic inputs, FSAR chapters, and approved topical reports.
- Interpret neutronics evaluations and assess power distributions, reactivity parameters, peaking factors, and other physics inputs affecting fuel performance.
- Perform core design and neutronics analyses for cycle design and reloads, including lattice physics generation, core loading optimization, and safety-related physics inputs.
- Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, specifications, and other fuel performance and neutronics documentation while supporting cross-functional reviews and method development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
- At least 3 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience, including fuel thermal-mechanical analysis and engineering design processes.
- Practical knowledge or experience with PWR reactor physics analyses is required.
- Experience in core design and neutronics is preferred; advanced engineering education is desirable.
- Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
- Ability to support quality assurance requirements under 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1, and to travel nationally and locally as needed.
Culture & Benefits
- Collaborative work across Nuclear Fuels, Thermal Hydraulics, Code Development, Nuclear Methods, and other Engineering disciplines.
- Opportunities to develop technical depth in fuel performance, neutronics, thermal-hydraulic integration, and associated codes and methods.
- Work includes problem solving, technical troubleshooting, cross-functional reviews, and support for changing analysis priorities.
- Employee benefits are available through NuScale’s benefits program.
