Network Engineer (Wireless)

Location: Chicago, United States; willingness to travel domestically and internationally to towers, rooftops, data centers, and rural sites is required.

Annual base salary: $175,000–$215,000 USD.

What you will do

• Build network monitoring, mapping, telemetry, alerting, and performance-analysis platforms.
• Develop Python-based device integrations for radios, amplifiers, controllers, and power systems using serial/TCP, SNMP, and vendor APIs.
• Create AI- and LLM-assisted diagnostic and chat-ops tooling for incident triage and on-call response.
• Design, evaluate, commission, and maintain licensed microwave, millimeter-wave, free-space optical, and shortwave links.
• Lead production incident response, postmortems, change planning, maintenance windows, and network improvements.
• Develop new tower, rooftop, data-center, water-tank, and greenfield sites and document field procedures.

Requirements

• Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information systems, or equivalent practical experience in RF, telecom, or network operations.
• Strong Python, Linux/UNIX, shell, Git, networking, VLAN, multicast, Ethernet, optical-equipment, and SNMP experience.
• Practical knowledge of RF path analysis, modulation, spectrum analysis, interference, antennas, link budgets, and Fresnel clearance.
• Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, carriers, and field crews across multiple time zones.
• Availability for a follow-the-sun on-call rotation across Americas, EMEA, and APAC, including occasional weekends and off-hours.
• Willingness to travel to remote infrastructure sites and manage changes in production environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with Grafana, Icinga, Splunk, ClickHouse, Device42, REST APIs, DMVPN, LTE, or cloud service routers.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, configuration management, CI/CD, GIS tooling, or precision latency benchmarking.
• Knowledge of FCC licensing, ASR, FAA filings, zoning, permitting, telecom site development, and RF or optical test equipment.
• Direct experience with microwave, millimeter-wave, HF, or optical transport.
