Professional Counselor I

Location: Commerce, Texas, United States; work may include evenings and weekends.

What you will do

• Provide individual, group, and couples counseling for university students.
• Conduct client intakes, screenings, psychological assessments, case management, referrals, and consultations.
• Deliver crisis intervention and consult with the Counseling Center director as needed.
• Develop and evaluate educational outreach, prevention, and mental health programs.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, internal teams, and external colleagues.
• Maintain client records in the electronic medical records system in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA requirements.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
• At least one year of counseling or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, or eligible for Texas LPC-Associate licensure within the first 90 days.
• If applying for LPC-Associate status, provide an official transcript showing a master’s degree with 60 counseling-related credit hours and a passing NCE score.
• Knowledge of intervention models, university mental health needs, student development, and office productivity applications.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, multitasking, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Doctorate in counseling, psychology, or social work.
• Three or more years of counseling or related experience.
• Experience in a college counseling center or university setting.
• Spanish-speaking or bilingual ability.
• Advanced training in crisis management and trauma-informed mental health care.
