TL;DR
Product Intern (Defense): Supporting low-volume defense product programs across requirements management, prototype development, manufacturing, quality, and production readiness with an accent on product lifecycle execution, cost targets, and cross-functional collaboration. Focus on managing BOMs and supplier procurement, tracking quality metrics, implementing corrective actions, and transferring prototype designs into low-rate production.

Location: New Hudson, Michigan, United States; work is typically performed in a team-based office environment. Travel of up to 20% may be required for customer and supplier meetings, training, testing, and industry conferences.

Salary: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Manage program requirements and product work-products throughout the full lifecycle.
  • Participate in prototype design, build, testing, development, fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly activities.
  • Create and maintain BOMs, support supplier selection and production parts procurement, and collaborate with purchasing.
  • Track product cost targets, quality metrics, warranty, scrap, obsolescence, and spares activity.
  • Determine corrective actions, generate ECRs, and ensure prototype designs transfer effectively to low-rate production.
  • Lead core production meetings, coordinate cross-functional teams, support customer interfaces, and serve as the product expert.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of automotive or military vehicle systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of product development tools and processes, with proficiency in ERP tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organization, customer service, multitasking, and independent working skills.
  • Understanding of ITAR licensing classifications.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Nice to have

  • Low-volume production program experience.
  • CAD and GD&T experience.
  • Defense industry, vehicle or system testing, manufacturing engineering, or Logistics Product Data process experience.
