Mechanical Engineer, Roll to Roll Web Conveyance Team Lead

Location: Onsite in Rochester, New York, with up to 25% travel.

Salary: $106,000–$159,000 per year, plus potential annual incentive and/or long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Lead daily priorities, resource planning, coaching, recruiting support, onboarding, and professional development for the roll-to-roll engineering team.
• Direct multidisciplinary equipment projects from concept through installation, testing, validation, and completion.
• Design rollers, nip systems, tension-control zones, web guides, splicing and slitting stations, winding equipment, and in-line inspection systems.
• Troubleshoot wrinkles, surface damage, traction problems, and tension instability in web-handling systems.
• Lead testing, root-cause analysis, risk mitigation, and validation to improve equipment safety, quality, and reliability.
• Prepare calculations, design standards, technical documentation, drawing packages, schedules, proposals, cost estimates, and client recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least seven years of engineering experience with roll-to-roll web handling or conveyance systems.
• Experience designing or troubleshooting tension-control systems, unwind and rewind equipment, rollers and nip systems, web guiding, splicing, slitting, or in-line inspection systems.
• At least five years of experience using SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD platform.
• Experience delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through completion, analyzing technical data, identifying root causes, and managing risk.
• Ability to work onsite in Rochester, New York and travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Experience leading technical teams and knowledge of servo-driven tension or torque control.
• Familiarity with FEA, CFD, ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma, value-stream mapping, or project-management software.
• Professional Engineer license or eligibility for licensure.
