Sr Engineer (Utility Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, United States

Salary: $103,200–$141,900 per year, plus an eligible 15% annual bonus

What you will do

• Lead the planning, design, and execution of complex electric, gas, communications, transmission, substation, and distribution infrastructure projects.
• Perform advanced system performance analysis, outage investigations, field inspections, troubleshooting, and technical peer reviews.
• Develop and implement engineering strategies supporting grid modernization, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, documentation, and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate with stakeholders, manufacturers, designers, and cross-functional teams to develop interoperable utility products and standards.
• Provide technical leadership, training, mentoring, and guidance to other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a Professional Engineer license.
• At least 7 years of professional engineering experience, including advanced experience in utility infrastructure.
• Knowledge of engineering design principles, electrical and mechanical systems, applicable standards, codes, and engineering practices.
• Ability to analyze complex technical issues and apply advanced engineering principles to resolve them.
• Strong teamwork, interpersonal, written, oral communication, presentation, report generation, and technical writing skills.
• Experience with analysis software such as CYMDIST, PSS/E, Python, PLS-CAD, Pole Foreman, Power BI, or similar tools.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree or graduate-level coursework in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management.
• Engineer-in-Training certification, Professional Engineer license, or project management certification.
• Inventor 3D experience or willingness to learn it.
• Civil structural engineering experience, industry committee participation, or published technical documents.
