What you will do
- Build and operate non-realtime controller services for cryogenic compressors, vacuum pumps, power supplies, lasers, temperature controllers, wavemeters, cameras, and related hardware.
- Lead demanding device integrations and diagnose failures that emerge against real hardware in a live laboratory.
- Eliminate systemic failure classes across the hardware fleet and improve the shared controller framework.
- Build tooling, simulators, and test infrastructure that improve engineering velocity.
- Evolve service deployment, operations, and observability as the fleet grows.
- Contribute through hands-on coding, code reviews, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Requirements
- Deep systems engineering experience and a track record of shipping and operating reliable production services.
- Expertise in Rust or strong proficiency in another systems language with willingness to work in a Rust codebase, including async programming.
- Experience building and operating networked services such as gRPC or REST, including error handling, observability, and failure-mode analysis.
- Experience with hardware and instrument protocols such as SCPI, Modbus, serial, and Ethernet.
- Strong debugging, prioritization, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
