Layout Automation Developer Intern

Location: On-site in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, United States. Candidates must be U.S. Persons; due to national security requirements, People's Republic of China and Russian nationals are not eligible unless also U.S. citizens.

What you will do

• Explore layout automation tools and workflows to accelerate ion trap layout.
• Perform trade studies and develop use cases and test cases demonstrating potential improvements.
• Develop and verify Python and Cadence SKILL automation tools with the layout team.
• Support smaller R&D layout projects and become familiar with the design-through-tapeout process.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with graduation on or after 2027.
• Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or person granted asylum or refugee status.
• 3+ years of programming experience in Python, C/C++, Cadence SKILL, TCL/TK, or other programming languages is strongly preferred.
• Experience or exposure to EDA/CAD tools, hierarchical physical layout, and semiconductor or MEMS photolithography mask layout is preferred.
• Experience with Cadence Virtuoso, L-Edit, KLayout, or Synopsis tools is preferred.
• Graduate studies in electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or computer science are preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with automation, machine learning, and generative AI tools for programming and workflow development.
• Experience laying out electronic, photonic, or MEMS devices.
