Engineer 3, System Planning Tools (Python/SQL)

Location: Pomona, California, US; hybrid work with required reporting to an SCE facility, and residence in California

Salary: $129,200–$193,700 per year

What you will do

• Support a system planning workbench for identifying grid needs, developing 10-year mitigation plans, and meeting regulatory requirements.
• Apply electrical engineering, distribution system planning, data analytics, and software-enabled workflow development.
• Use Python, SQL, UI development, GitHub, and AI-assisted development tools to automate planning processes and improve engineering workflows.
• Translate planning data needs into data structures, tables, relationships, and scalable solution architecture concepts.
• Lead and coordinate full-time and contract employees while resolving complex cross-functional engineering issues.
• Conduct risk assessments, engineering studies, audits, inspections, and technical training for junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• At least five years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Strong foundation in electrical engineering and electric system planning, including distribution analysis, forecasting, grid needs assessment, and long-term mitigation planning.
• Experience with programming and data analytics tools such as Python, SQL, VBA, or similar technologies.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Must work and reside in California and report to the Pomona facility on required hybrid days.

Nice to have

• UI development concepts, GitHub or similar version control platforms, and AI-assisted tools such as Copilot.
• Experience with large datasets, engineering workflow automation, utility planning standards, and regulatory reporting.
• Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain licensure.
• Strong communication, presentation, and cross-functional relationship-building skills.
