Sr Engineer - T&S; Transformer Monitoring

Location: Hybrid role based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, United States

Salary: $103,200–$141,900 per year, plus an annual bonus of 15% for eligible positions

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for monitoring, diagnostics, condition assessment, and reliability improvement of transmission and substation power transformers.
• Develop transformer monitoring strategies using online monitoring systems, dissolved gas analysis, asset health data, and industry best practices.
• Investigate alarms, abnormal operating conditions, and significant events to determine root causes and corrective actions.
• Evaluate transformer monitoring and diagnostic data and support data-driven asset management, failure mitigation, and condition-based maintenance.
• Collaborate with equipment specialists, system operations, asset management, project teams, and external vendors.
• Mentor engineers and field personnel and contribute to industry organizations, working groups, and technical forums.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a Professional Engineer license.
• At least 7 years of professional engineering experience, with advanced experience resolving complex engineering issues.
• Experience with power transformer engineering, asset management, condition assessment, or transformer monitoring programs.
• Knowledge of large power transformers, autotransformers, bushings, cooling systems, and associated substation equipment.
• Experience with online transformer monitoring systems, data analytics platforms, technical writing, and presentations.
• Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree or graduate-level work in Engineering, Business Administration, or Project Management.
• Engineer-in-Training certification or Professional Engineer license issued by the state of practice.
• Participation in industry committees or working groups, or publication of technical documents.
• Advanced utility infrastructure experience in system analysis, planning, design coordination, standards development, or project execution.
