Software Development Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Salary: $148,000–$222,000 annual base salary for the primary location; additional US locations: $123,900–$222,000

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend microservices and developer-facing UI features for the Developer Platform.
• Develop public and internal APIs with versioning, backward compatibility, security standards, and contract management.
• Operate cloud-native services across AWS and Kubernetes, including metrics, logging, tracing, SLO-based alerting, and on-call support.
• Integrate AI capabilities, large language models, real-time streaming interfaces, and Model Context Protocol tooling.
• Own features end to end from technical design and API contracts through production rollout, testing, and operational health.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers while contributing through code reviews, design feedback, documentation, and technical mentoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on backend microservices and distributed systems.
• 5+ years of production experience with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, a major cloud platform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• 3+ years operating production services, including observability, SLO-based alerting, and on-call responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities into products and using AI-augmented development tools to direct, review, and validate generated code.
• At least 1 year of experience building frontend UIs with React, Angular, or Vue.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go, developer platforms, DevTools, language servers, or other core engineering platforms.
