Engineer - Protection & Control

Location: In-office in Kirkwood or Rochester, New York, United States; travel to worksites as needed.

Salary: $87,000–$109,500 per year, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Design, configure, maintain, and renew automation, data collection, protection, and control equipment subsystems.
• Perform engineering calculations, estimates, power system analysis, and protection coordination for transmission and substation projects.
• Review and approve protection system designs, settings, contractor deliverables, specifications, contracts, and purchase orders.
• Direct engineering contractors and consultants supporting automation, integration, and protection system projects.
• Analyze customer and distributed energy resource interconnections, distribution protection systems, and fault events.
• Prepare fault analysis reports, support compliance programs, and act as a subject matter expert during audits.

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering experience or 1 year of protection and control experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and equipment protection fundamentals.
• Experience with ASPEN OneLiner and ASPEN Line Database.
• Knowledge of FERC, NERC, NPCC, state regulations, IEEE 1547, and applicable power system protection standards.
• Strong electrical design, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
