TL;DR
Senior Cybersecurity System Engineer (Cloud): Reviewing and securing Department of War information systems, cloud environments, and Cross Domain Solutions with an accent on risk management, compliance, authorization, and executive-level cybersecurity reporting. Focus on assessing emerging technologies, developing cybersecurity policies, supporting Zero Trust and cloud security initiatives, and advising senior defense leadership on complex technical architectures.

Location: On-site at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, United States

Salary: $165,000–$185,000 per year, with additional compensation potentially available.

What you will do

  • Review Department of War information technology cybersecurity postures and manage risks through structured security frameworks.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on Cross Domain Solutions, including Cloud Enterprise CDS, Raise the Bar compliance, and Defensive Cyber Operations.
  • Lead cloud compliance reviews and risk assessments across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments using Secure Cloud Computing Architecture and applicable security requirements.
  • Assess emerging technologies including Zero Trust, software-defined networking, cloud edge computing, and cloud IT projects.
  • Advise cybersecurity governance boards and technical advisory boards while preparing executive, Congressional, and leadership briefs.
  • Support policy development, budget shortfall analysis, program reviews, and meetings with senior defense leadership.

Requirements

  • TS/SCI clearance and United States citizenship are required.
  • At least 12 years of experience in Department of War staff positions, military service, or cybersecurity organizations.
  • At least 4 years of experience developing Department of War cybersecurity policies.
  • Eight years of related experience plus a technical master's degree, or 12 years of related experience plus a technical bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to protect classified and proprietary information and work with mixed contractor-government teams.
  • Strong executive-level written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0.
  • Experience at a major Department of War headquarters or agency staff.
  • Experience with ICAM, Comply to Connect, Cloud SRG, Cloud SCAA, and NCDSMO guides.
