What you will do

  • Architect primary and secondary composite and metallic aircraft structures, including load paths, joints, materials, structural arrangements, and manufacturing approaches.
  • Set the technical direction for aircraft structures and make architectural decisions across aerodynamics, propulsion, systems, manufacturing, and flight test.
  • Define the structures organization’s execution plan, including capabilities, work allocation, engineering processes, and operating rhythms.
  • Support fabrication, assembly, ground testing, and flight testing, incorporating test results and lessons learned into improved designs.
  • Lead technical reviews, resolve complex structural design problems, and communicate priorities, risks, and decisions across disciplines.
  • Mentor engineers and establish engineering standards, design practices, and development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience designing aircraft structures, including ownership of significant flight hardware.
  • Experience taking structural designs from concept through release, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Strong understanding of metallic and composite structural design, load paths, manufacturing methods, and joining techniques.
  • Expertise with Siemens NX or equivalent CAD software, plus structural sizing, hand calculations, and working knowledge of FEA tools such as Femap/Nastran.
  • Strong engineering judgment, communication skills, cross-disciplinary decision-making ability, and a record of mentoring while remaining a hands-on technical contributor.
