TL;DR
Senior Turbomachinery Design Engineer (Aerodynamics): Designing and optimizing aerodynamic flowpaths, compressors, turboexpanders, and related rotating equipment across the equipment lifecycle with an accent on CFD, performance prediction, and turbomachinery testing. Focus on developing aerodynamic analysis tools, solving complex compressible-flow challenges, and improving efficiency, reliability, and operating range.

Location: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States. Hybrid schedule with four days per week in the office; minimal travel, typically less than 10%.

hirify.global is an industrial gases company whose Rotoflow business develops cryogenic and warm-gas centrifugal turbomachinery, aftermarket services, and engineered solutions for industrial gas, hydrocarbon, LNG, and petrochemical applications.

What you will do

  • Design and optimize aerodynamic flowpaths for impellers, vanes, centrifugal compressors, turboexpanders, and related rotating equipment.
  • Perform preliminary aerodynamic sizing and performance calculations during proposals and refine analyses through final equipment definition.
  • Apply CFD, 1D, 2D, quasi-3D, and 3D aerodynamic analysis methods and performance mapping techniques.
  • Develop and improve aerodynamic engineering tools, sizing methods, prediction models, and workflows.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamic, simulation, product, proposals, process, manufacturing, and external software engineering teams.
  • Support testing, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, aftermarket activities, and root cause analysis throughout the equipment lifecycle.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of turbomachinery or rotating machinery aerodynamic design experience.
  • Experience designing turbomachinery flowpath components, impellers, vanes, compressors, turboexpanders, or related rotating equipment.
  • Experience with CFD-based aerodynamic analysis tools and 1D, 2D, or 3D aerodynamic methods.
  • Experience with turbomachinery testing, data acquisition, performance evaluation, or matching test results to analytical models.
  • Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, compressible flow, turbomachinery performance prediction, and flowpath optimization.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Aerodynamics, Turbomachinery, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with aerodynamic performance mapping, equipment selection, and performance prediction methodologies.
  • Experience with ANSYS, Concepts NREC AxCent, or similar turbomachinery analysis tools.
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, C#, VB, Fortran, or a similar technical language.
