Research Data Scientist (GenAI/LLM)

Location: Remote - United States

Salary: $160,000–$185,000 per year, based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Conduct independent and collaborative research across Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, multimodal AI, machine learning, model evaluation, and AI data.
• Formulate research questions, design experiments, analyze results, and build analytical models, prototypes, and research pipelines.
• Develop LLM evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, datasets, evaluation criteria, and methodologies for assessing accuracy, robustness, bias, hallucination, reasoning, relevance, and response quality.
• Perform statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, significance testing, sampling, exploratory data analysis, and error analysis on structured and unstructured datasets.
• Develop and evaluate datasets, taxonomies, annotation frameworks, and data-quality processes to improve AI training and evaluation data.
• Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, AI/ML engineers, annotation teams, domain experts, delivery teams, and client-facing stakeholders; present findings and technical recommendations.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related discipline.
• 4–7 years of hands-on research experience in AI/ML, Data Science, NLP, Generative AI, LLMs, or related areas.
• Demonstrated research experience and a track record including publications, patents, conference presentations, open-source contributions, or significant AI/ML research projects.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience using NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn; PyTorch or TensorFlow preferred.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistics, experimentation, data analysis, feature engineering, model evaluation, performance metrics, hypothesis testing, and statistical inference.
• Hands-on exposure to LLMs, NLP, Generative AI, multimodal AI, and at least one of RAG, LLM evaluation, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, SFT, RLHF/DPO, embeddings, or model benchmarking.

Nice to have

• Experience with Git and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Publications in reputed conferences or journals and a strong academic or research profile.
• A degree from IITs, NITs, or other premier engineering or research institutions.
