Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States; 1–2 full workdays per week at the Columbia office

Salary: $150,000–$275,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Design enterprise APIs and RESTful web services using modern Java frameworks and libraries.
• Build and maintain microservices and software solutions for client requirements.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration testing.
• Review agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment while troubleshooting under multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must work in a hybrid environment with an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, Maryland office.
• Five or more years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, object-oriented programming, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux, configuration management tools, and tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, communication, independent-work, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Current U.S. Government Secret or TS clearance.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, NiFi, Kafka, Kubernetes, distributed or NoSQL databases, and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Experience with Python, Vue, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Big Data platforms, and data lakes or warehouses.
• Experience using Claude Code or Gemini for agentic feature delivery, refactoring, and automated testing.
