Sr. Staff Software Engineer (Java/AI)

Location: Lowell, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office required

Salary: $145,600–$209,300 annual base pay, with potential performance-based bonus and restricted stock unit awards.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Java web applications and platform services for enterprise SaaS products.
• Build full-stack functionality with Java, Spring Boot, React, JavaScript, SQL, Hibernate/JPA, REST APIs, and microservices.
• Develop and integrate AI capabilities including LLMs, RAG, semantic search, prompt orchestration, intelligent workflows, and AI agents.
• Design and maintain highly available platform infrastructure while improving performance, scalability, observability, security, and reliability.
• Investigate complex production issues across applications, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and third-party integrations.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, collaborate with product, UX, QA, DevOps, and security teams, and promote engineering excellence.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise Java-based web applications.
• Strong experience with Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA, React, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, REST APIs, microservices, SQL, and MVC architecture.
• Strong SQL skills including stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, and query optimization.
• Experience with TDD, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Agile development, and software quality practices.
• Experience building AI agents and integrating LLMs into enterprise applications, including RAG, vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering, MCP, tool calling, and AI orchestration.
• Ability to work in the Lowell office three days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, or infrastructure as code.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, monitoring and observability platforms, infrastructure automation, and operational tooling.
• Experience with distributed-system troubleshooting, performance optimization, reliability, security, and operational excellence.
