Software Engineer (AI)

Location: New York, United States; hybrid work

Salary: $130,000–$170,000 annual base salary, plus eligible discretionary bonus

Quantitative trading firm developing electronic trading infrastructure and business support systems for global financial markets.

What you will do

• Build and maintain internal tools, operational web applications, Python services, automation scripts, and data-processing jobs.
• Design workflows for data ingestion, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Develop AI-enabled internal tools, including an AI chatbot and assistant for operational support, billing investigation, documentation discovery, and workflow guidance.
• Build AI agent workflows and integrations with APIs, databases, and documentation using MCP, function calling, RAG, and permission-aware access.
• Maintain backend APIs and frontend interfaces, and debug issues across code, databases, APIs, logs, configuration, and deployments.
• Improve reliability, observability, test coverage, documentation, maintainability, and delivery processes.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python programming skills and solid SQL and relational database knowledge.
• Experience with production or business-critical codebases and data workflows such as ETL, reporting, reconciliation, validation, or operational processing.
• Familiarity with web applications, backend APIs, frontend/backend integration, Linux/Unix, and Git-based workflows.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, ownership, communication, and ability to work with ambiguous requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with Vue.js or similar frontend frameworks.
• Experience with internal tools, admin portals, dashboards, workflow applications, or reporting systems.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, deployment configuration, service logs, and operational troubleshooting.
• Experience with Django, Flask, FastAPI, database schemas, migrations, indexes, validation logic, or observability tools.
