Director, Security (News Security)

Location: New York City, United States. Required on-site: full-time from an hirify.global-designated worksite. The role requires extensive deployment with News personnel, travel as needed, and 24/7 emergency availability.

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year, plus bonus and long-term incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead security logistics and physical security operations for News personnel, spaces, and remote newsgathering activities.
• Assess security needs, select vendors, travel to remote assignments, and conduct post-operation reviews.
• Coordinate responses to dynamic and large-scale news stories across the News Security team.
• Develop security guidelines, training requirements, action plans, and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with Global Security Operations, Cyber Security, the Global Response & Intelligence Center, Business Continuity, Crisis Management, HR, and Legal.
• Manage vendors, contracts, budgets, invoices, investigations, incident records, and personal protection support for executives and talent.

Requirements

• Significant experience in media or news security, corporate security, military, law enforcement, or a similar field.
• Experience with budgets, stakeholder management, and external vendor relationships.
• Knowledge of deployment planning, vulnerability and privacy assessments, intrusion detection, incident response, and security policy creation.
• Must be willing to remain on call and available 24/7 for emergencies.
• Must be willing to travel, including on short notice.
• A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

• News or media safety and security experience.
• HEFAT experience and knowledge of emerging threats to journalists and media organizations in the United States.
• Experience supporting senior executives or high-profile talent.
• Experience developing departmental strategy and managing multiple concurrent projects.
