Senior Counsel - Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Location: Remote within the U.S., or onsite at hirify.global locations in Thousand Oaks, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts; or South San Francisco, California.

What you will do

• Work with scientists to identify patentable subject matter.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide.
• Conduct prior-art searches, analyze patents, and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions.
• Conduct intellectual-property due diligence for licensing activities.
• Negotiate and draft research agreements while advising R&D and business partners.
• Assist with litigation-related matters and patent challenges or defenses before the PTAB, in oppositions, and in other forums.

Requirements

• J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least four years of intellectual-property law experience.
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Strong analytical, legal drafting, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage priorities and complex projects independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Ten or more years of patent or intellectual-property law experience.
• Experience with U.S. and foreign biotechnology intellectual-property law in a law firm or biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry.
• Experience with patent litigation, inter partes reviews, post-grant reviews, oppositions, or other adversarial proceedings.
