TL;DR
Cost Accountant (Aerospace) (Manufacturing Cost Accounting): Building and owning the cost accounting function for scalable space infrastructure hardware production with an accent on inventory valuation, standard costing, WIP, COGS, and manufacturing variances. Focus on designing ERP-supported controls and reporting, reconciling operational and financial data, and translating production activity into accurate product costs.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Onsite role. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain required ITAR authorizations is required.

Salary: $112,000–$154,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

  • Build and own the cost accounting function, including processes, methodologies, controls, documentation, and reporting for inventory, standard costs, WIP, COGS, and manufacturing variances.
  • Manage month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and supporting schedules.
  • Develop standard costing methodologies for purchased and manufactured hardware and analyze material, labor, overhead, absorption, scrap, and purchase price variances.
  • Own inventory accounting and valuation for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods, resolving ERP, work order, and transaction discrepancies.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Program teams to translate BOMs, production flows, procurement costs, and engineering changes into accurate product costs.
  • Define ERP requirements, automate manual processes, strengthen financial controls, and develop reporting infrastructure for production growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 4+ years of experience in cost, inventory, or manufacturing accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, WIP, COGS, PPV, absorption, manufacturing variances, and ERP-based inventory flows.
  • Experience independently managing close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, complex analyses, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Strong Excel skills, analytical ability, process-building experience, and the ability to solve ambiguous problems autonomously.
  • Must satisfy U.S. ITAR space technology export eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, hardware, automotive, electronics, or another complex manufacturing environment.
  • Experience building or improving cost accounting processes, controls, standard costing methodologies, and reporting during manufacturing scale-up.
  • Experience partnering with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and operational teams.
  • Experience implementing or improving ERP cost accounting and inventory workflows, including requirements, testing, data validation, and automation.
