Technical Lead Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Palo Alto, California, with onsite work one day per week. Remote work is available from anywhere in the U.S.

Salary: $234,650–$259,350 annual base salary in the San Francisco Bay Area, plus potential equity, benefits, and perks.

What you will do

• Define the AI technical strategy and roadmap for customer experiences across voice, email, chat, and SMS.
• Design reliable, observable, real-time agent architectures covering orchestration, tool use, guardrails, and fallback handling.
• Write code, review pull requests, prototype agent capabilities, and debug production issues.
• Partner with Product, Operations, and CX to identify and ship AI-powered workflow improvements.
• Establish agent performance metrics and use data to prioritize technical investments.
• Lead and grow a small, senior engineering team while maintaining high standards for execution and ownership.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems, including 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams.
• Experience developing and shipping LLM-powered, conversational AI, or agentic systems in real-world environments.
• Strong systems design expertise focused on reliable, observable, real-time services.
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, RAG, tool usage, and agent orchestration frameworks.
• Experience defining AI technical strategy, evaluating build-versus-buy options, and assessing vendors and platforms.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with telephony, messaging APIs, or chat platforms at scale.
• Experience with AI/ML evaluation, quality instrumentation, drift detection, and continuous improvement.
