Principal Software Engineer - AWS

Location: San Francisco, California; hybrid work model. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $207,000–$276,000 USD per year in San Francisco. Phoenix and Chicago salary range: $173,000–$230,000 USD per year. Additional discretionary incentive plan and benefits are available.

What you will do

• Define technical product designs, application architectures, and solutions aligned with technology roadmaps.
• Shape a department-wide technical vision and introduce modern cloud, containerization, CI/CD, testing, and operational practices.
• Partner with product management, engineering, architecture, customers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Lead technical discussions, presentations, solution development, and strategic change initiatives.
• Set engineering standards, mentor team members, and provide senior technical expertise.
• Support risk management and protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience designing and developing complex software projects, including 8+ years in fintech.
• Experience with cloud application solutions, containerization, CI/CD, automated testing, and security guidelines.
• Strong experience with Java, RESTful services, microservices, Spring, messaging frameworks, Oracle PL/SQL, and JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience designing end-to-end systems, test automation, OOA/OOD, CI/CD pipelines, repositories, and modern cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Ability to work in the United States without employer sponsorship; background and drug screening are required.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in computer science or another technical field.
• Hands-on AWS experience, Terraform, Kubernetes or cloud certification, and cloud migration experience.
• Knowledge of monitoring and alerting systems, database architectures, ACH/EFT, RTP, or FedNow.
• Experience with C#, Ruby, Python, PHP, Splunk, Altiris, or Zabbix.
