TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Liquid Chromatography): Maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and qualifying HPLC, UPLC, GC, and IC analytical instrumentation with an accent on diagnostics, metrology standards, and instrument software. Focus on troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and software-based systems, improving equipment reliability, and supporting customers through technical investigations.

Location: Remote within Ohio; the role is based in Columbus, OH. Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with overnight travel of up to 15%.

Salary: $60,000–$90,000 per year

What you will do

  • Maintain, diagnose, repair, calibrate, and qualify HPLC, UPLC, GC, and IC systems.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to analytical instrumentation and related software.
  • Source supplies and repair parts and maintain inventories of consumables.
  • Provide customers and staff with troubleshooting explanations, technical guidance, and solutions.
  • Audit equipment records, procedures, databases, and reports to resolve discrepancies and support quality assurance.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, coordinate vendor feedback, and present technical information to management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, electronics, or a related field, plus at least 3 years of analytical instrument experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting laboratory and analytical instrumentation, including HPLC, UPLC, GC, and/or IC systems.
  • Knowledge of metrology standards, testing tools, calibration, applicable regulations, and laboratory operations.
  • Ability to administer instrument, mechanical, electrical, and software-based functions.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Availability to work remotely within Ohio and travel overnight up to 15% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Agilent or Waters LC and UPLC systems and/or Thermo IC instruments.
