TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer - First Shift (Fusion Energy): Transitioning fusion-energy products from R&D to full-scale production with an accent on manufacturing-process qualification, production layouts, tooling, documentation, and cross-functional execution. Focus on applying DFM/DFA, troubleshooting production and quality issues, analyzing performance metrics, and improving manufacturing safety, quality, cost, and throughput.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site, first shift

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Transition new products from development and R&D into full-scale manufacturing.
  • Develop, implement, and qualify manufacturing processes against quality, cost, and production-rate targets.
  • Design and optimize production layouts, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly analyses to improve product designs.
  • Create process documentation, including work instructions, process-flow diagrams, pFMEAs, and SOPs.
  • Coordinate with design, quality, supply chain, planning, and production teams while troubleshooting issues, training personnel, and driving continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, including transitioning products from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process-improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform extended periods of typing, standing, stooping, and sitting.
  • Willingness to work on-site and occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts; ability to work safely around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

  • Experience with magnets, thermo-mechanical assemblies, machining, welding, or vacuum systems.
  • Experience writing equipment specifications and maintenance plans.
  • CAD experience and proficiency in work-instruction writing, material planning, process mapping, or capacity modeling.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
