Senior Software Development Engineer (Remote)

Location: Remote within the Continental United States (CONUS)

Salary: $150,080–$160,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and deliver federal applications with React/Redux interfaces, Python services, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Develop intelligent document processing systems for classification, extraction, and validation of large volumes of digital and scanned documents.
• Design prompt and context engineering strategies, extraction schemas, data dictionaries, and evaluation processes based on ground truth.
• Evaluate and deploy managed foundation models, vision-language models, and open-weight models using services such as Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker.
• Own features end to end, including architecture decisions, integrations, testing, monitoring, technical debt reduction, documentation, and production support.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and collaborate with architects, product owners, designers, DevOps engineers, and Scrum teams.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
• Prior hands-on experience delivering software for the Department of Veterans Affairs is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / VA Tier 2 background investigation is required.
• Deep hands-on AWS engineering experience, including serverless and event-driven architectures, data and search services, AI/ML services, and CloudFormation.
• Strong experience with React, Python, system design, clean code, Git, GitHub, JIRA, Scrum, Agile delivery, testing, documentation, and production operations.
• Understanding of statistics, machine learning, LLMs, vision-language models, intelligent document processing, OCR, extraction quality assurance, and responsible use of agentic AI coding tools.

Nice to have

• Current AWS certification at the Associate level or above.
• Experience fine-tuning, hosting, or benchmarking open-weight models on Amazon SageMaker.
• Experience with document processing, OCR, IDP at scale, shared engineering tooling, Redshift, Athena, or Power BI.
