Director, Major Projects (Nuclear Development)

Location: On-site in Columbus, Ohio or Dallas, Texas; the role may require living at the assigned project location during execution phases and working at offices, power plants, nuclear facilities, and construction sites.

Salary: $188,524–$245,080 per year, plus incentives and benefits.

What you will do

• Direct end-to-end execution of major projects with capital budgets of approximately $1B–$10B.
• Lead project safety, integrated scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, change management, and construction delivery.
• Establish commercial and contracting strategies and negotiate agreements with EPC contractors, engineers, and other vendors.
• Provide executive reporting to AEP leadership and joint venture boards, including project metrics, risks, solutions, and team needs.
• Manage regulatory approvals, stakeholder relationships, and coordination with utilities, RTOs, regulators, landowners, contractors, and suppliers.
• Build, mentor, and hold accountable a multidisciplinary project leadership team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, project management, accounting, finance, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of qualified experience, including work in two or more areas such as major construction projects, project management, project controls, commissioning, commercial nuclear power, or contract negotiations.
• PMP certification is required.
• Progressive leadership experience, strong business acumen, and demonstrated strategic planning, risk mitigation, conflict management, delegation, and decision-making skills.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to travel, typically up to 50% or more when required by the assignment.
• Ability to perform site walkdowns and work safely around construction, power generation, nuclear, and potentially hazardous environments.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in business, engineering, project management, finance, accounting, or construction management.
• Experience with direct supervision, executive communications, commercial strategy, and contract management.
• Experience coordinating with RTOs such as PJM, MISO, SPP, or ERCOT and with state utility commissions.
• Experience with environmental applications involving USACE, USFWS, or NEPA.
