TL;DR
Mechanical Technician (Aerospace): Fabricating, assembling, inspecting, and maintaining ground support equipment and facility hardware for spacesuit operations with an accent on precision tooling, mechanical and fluid systems, and safety-critical aerospace assemblies. Focus on interpreting engineering drawings, routing piping and electrical harnesses, operating test facilities, and solving complex hardware and maintenance challenges.

Location: Houston, United States; onsite at the SSDF facility

What you will do

  • Fabricate, assemble, install, inspect, and maintain ground support equipment and facility hardware for spacesuit operations.
  • Interpret engineering models, blueprints, wiring diagrams, assembly prints, schematics, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Operate precision measurement tools, hand tools, power tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment.
  • Assemble and check out spacecraft mechanical, electrical, and fluid components.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to develop assembly work instructions and hardware processing procedures.
  • Identify issues, recommend solutions, maintain clean-room and safety standards, and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–10 years of hands-on technical experience in aviation or aerospace, working with test, flight, and safety-critical hardware assemblies.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, assembly, fabrication, piping and tubing installation, test-facility rig work, and ground support equipment operations.
  • Experience routing, installing, and checking out instrumentation and electrical harnesses; familiarity with pressure systems and metallic and non-metallic hardware.
  • Proficiency with torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and optical measuring instruments.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. export-control screening requirements for access to ITAR, EAR, or NASA-controlled technical data.

Nice to have

  • Industry certification, trade-school training, or a related degree.
  • Clean-room experience.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced technicians.
