Data Center White Space Designer (AI Data Centers)

Location: Remote, USA; based in one of the offices in Houston, TX; Long Beach, CA; San Francisco, CA; or Reno, NV. In-person work is expected, with regular travel to data center sites for design validation, commissioning, and operational support. Exceptions may be considered for exceptional candidates outside these hubs.

What you will do

• Lead white space and rack layout strategies for AI/ML platforms, including NVIDIA GPU racks, Google TPU pods, Cerebras systems, and comparable accelerator hardware.
• Map rack requirements to GIGA BASE modular products, covering power distribution, containment, cable pathways, and structural interfaces.
• Maintain Basis of Design documents and rack layout templates for customer-facing design engagements.
• Coordinate with customers, colocation partners, mechanical, electrical, structural, fire, network, compute, and carrier teams.
• Conduct site validation, commissioning, engineering analysis, incident investigations, and operational handoffs.
• Develop design standards, commissioning protocols, digital models, and product roadmap input while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in data center white space design, infrastructure design, or site engineering.
• Expertise in rack layout, hot/cold containment, power distribution planning, structured cabling, thermal management, and power density optimization.
• Proficiency with data center design tools, CAD software, and infrastructure modeling.
• Strong project coordination, leadership, written communication, and presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly to data center sites and work in person at a Giga office.

Nice to have

• Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or AI-focused data center deployments.
• Experience with high-density GPU or AI accelerator environments, network infrastructure, BIM, Revit, or advanced CAD modeling.
• Experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT, operational handoff, ASHRAE guidelines, power efficiency standards, or mentoring engineers.
