TL;DR
Quality Engineer II (Automotive): Leading design risk and requirements processes for chassis structure systems in commercial vehicles with an accent on DFMEA, safety-relevant analysis, component specifications, and special characteristics. Focus on identifying single-point failures, driving risk-reduction actions to closure, and translating safety requirements into manufacturable and testable designs.

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States. Hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. Applicants may work in or relocate to Portland, but relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $86,000–$110,000 USD per year, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Lead DFMEA, component specification, and Designation Safety-Relevant processes for chassis structure systems.
  • Facilitate risk analysis with system owners, component engineers, test engineers, manufacturing, operations quality, and service teams.
  • Identify hazards, single-point failures, and safety-critical risks before design release.
  • Track DFMEA actions, verify closure, and conduct supplier component DFMEA audits when required.
  • Define and flow down Special Characteristics to installation diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and supplier documentation.
  • Represent Engineering Quality in governance forums while tracking KPIs, open risks, and systemic issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in product development, engineering quality, systems engineering, or design assurance within automotive, aerospace, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with design risk management for complex mechanical or mechatronic systems.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to work on-site at the DTNA Portland location as part of the hybrid schedule.
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship and existing visa holders are not accepted. An attached resume is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience leading or moderating DFMEAs and closing risk-reduction actions.
  • Experience with safety-critical systems, hazard analysis, or single-point failure prevention.
  • Experience with CRS/CIS or equivalent specifications and tools such as IQ-FMEA RM Pro, XFMEA, or Pro FMEA.
  • Familiarity with DOORS NG, ELM, JAMA, ASQ certification, Shainin, Six Sigma, ADKAR, or workflow automation tools.
  • Experience applying data analytics or AI to quality, risk, or process improvement.
