TL;DR
Avionics Electrical Propulsion Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (Circuit Design/PCB/Power Electronics): Designing, building, and testing custom circuit boards and avionics hardware for an electric propulsion system with an accent on circuit analysis, PCB layout, power electronics, and laboratory validation. Focus on hardware bring-up, debugging, test-data analysis, and integrating electronics with propulsion, firmware, software, GNC, mechanical, manufacturing, and test systems.

Location: Onsite in Redondo Beach, California, for the duration of the 12-week internship

Compensation: $32.00 per hour; overtime eligible

In-space transportation company developing spacecraft and propulsion vehicles for missions beyond Low Earth Orbit and orbital transportation services.

What you will do

  • Design, assemble, and test custom circuit boards and avionics hardware for an electric propulsion system.
  • Develop schematics, select components, perform circuit analysis and simulation, and support PCB layout.
  • Develop and test actuator drivers, power converters, load switches, and other specialized electronics.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, debugging, validation, and laboratory testing.
  • Set up tests, execute supervised procedures, analyze data, and document designs, results, analyses, and hardware configurations.
  • Integrate hardware with propulsion, firmware, software, GNC, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of basic circuit analysis, electronic components, and analog, digital, or power electronics.
  • Hands-on experience building, testing, or troubleshooting electronic circuits.
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, and other electrical engineering laboratory equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite in Redondo Beach, California, and meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements as a U.S. Person or a person eligible to obtain an export license.

Nice to have

  • PCB design experience with Altium Designer or similar tools.
  • Experience with circuit simulation, power converters, actuator or motor drivers, load switches, microcontrollers, ADCs, DACs, op-amps, filtering, power integrity, or signal integrity.
  • Experience with soldering, electronics assembly, board-level rework, hardware bring-up, automated testing, data acquisition, or laboratory test equipment.
  • Experience in aerospace, propulsion, electronics, experimental research, spacecraft, or rocket hardware environments.
