Senior Software Developer (Data & Backend Development)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

Salary: CAD 107,000–157,300 per year base salary for Canada-based roles; offers may exceed this range.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize ETL data pipelines that consolidate data from multiple sources into a centralized repository.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservices supporting reporting and operational workflows.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data integrity, processing performance, query performance, and system reliability.
• Implement unit and integration tests, security controls, encryption, and effective API documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, product managers, infrastructure, business operations, quality assurance, and external partners.
• Perform code reviews, resolve application issues, and recommend technologies that improve data engineering practices.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of software development experience across multiple capacities.
• At least 2 years of experience with big data technologies such as Airflow, EMR/Spark, Snowflake, and Hadoop/Hive.
• Experience with data streaming using Kinesis or Kafka and with RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, plus experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Background with AWS cloud services, including S3/EBS, Lambda, EKS, and CloudWatch.
• Knowledge of observability platforms, design patterns, modern development practices, and excellent debugging skills.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification.
• AWS Certified Developer – Associate certification.
• Additional professional certifications.
