What you will do

  • Support the lead lawyer on health-sector inquests from the incident stage through resolution, particularly matters involving residential and nursing care homes and significant mental health issues.
  • Review, organise, index, cross-reference, and summarise client, witness, prosecution, medical, postmortem, and CCTV evidence.
  • Draft witness and insured statements, written submissions, defence case statements, mitigation materials, hearing bundles, and notes of evidence.
  • Liaise with courts, coroners, the CQC, police, local authorities, clients, counsel, and expert witnesses.
  • Attend interviews under caution, conferences, site visits, trials, and inquests, including taking photographs and preparing basic statements.
  • Research Mental Health Act guidance, corporate structures, procedures, risk assessments, and relevant case materials while ensuring compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or at least 2 years of experience in regulatory work, mental health hospital matters, or care and nursing home inquests.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, maintain attention to detail, and work effectively with case management systems.
  • Sensitive and professional approach when dealing with insured clients in difficult circumstances.
  • Strong telephone, written, communication, literacy, and IT skills.
  • Calm under pressure, self-confident, adaptable, and able to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work within the Keoghs Shared Values framework and maintain required client service levels.
