TL;DR
Forensic Mechanical Engineer (Failure Analysis & Accident Reconstruction) (Mechanical Engineering/Forensic Engineering): Investigating mechanical system failures and reconstructing motor and commercial vehicle collisions through inspections, testing, 3D scanning, evidence collection, technical reporting, and expert testimony with an accent on litigation-focused analysis and safety engineering. Focus on designing test fixtures, evaluating hardware, analyzing accident evidence, and presenting technical findings to clients, courts, and conferences.

Location: Penns Park, Pennsylvania, preferred; alternative U.S. locations may be considered based on qualifications. U.S. Persons only due to ITAR export-control requirements.

Salary: $75,000–$110,000 per year, full-time.

What you will do

  • Investigate and analyze failures involving industrial machinery, consumer products, HVAC equipment, workplace safety systems, and construction equipment.
  • Investigate and reconstruct motor vehicle and commercial vehicle collisions.
  • Perform vehicle, site, and evidence inspections using 3D scanning technology and software.
  • Conduct testing, collect data, and evaluate hardware and equipment failures.
  • Prepare technical reports and deliver educational or technical presentations.
  • Provide expert testimony and contribute to technical publications and continuing education.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a bachelor’s degree may be considered.
  • Professional Engineer licensure in at least one state is required; EI/EIT credentials may be considered.
  • Willingness to work in litigation matters, evaluate cases and claims, and design and build test fixtures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR requirements, including U.S. citizenship or nationality, lawful permanent residence, refugee status, or asylum status in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Prior expert-witness testimony experience.
  • Background in safety equipment, machine guarding, workplace safety, ladders, scaffolding, machinery, construction equipment, or consumer products.
