Corporate Counsel, Product & Privacy (AI)

Location: Bay Area, US; may be based in the preferred San Francisco, CA office.

Salary: $169,000–$214,000 USD annual base salary for exceptional talent based in California.

What you will do

• Advise Product and Engineering on privacy-by-design and AI governance throughout the product lifecycle.
• Build legal frameworks covering AI training data, LLM data use, model governance, the EU AI Act, US state AI laws, and FTC guidance.
• Support the global privacy program, including data subject access requests, DPIAs, RoPAs, cross-border transfers, breach response, and required notifications.
• Partner with Telecom & Regulatory Counsel on call recording, consent, transcription, AI notetaking, real-time coaching, and related CIPA and wiretap questions.
• Work with Security and GRC on ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI, and HIPAA certifications and privacy-enhancing controls such as redaction, anonymization, and access governance.
• Support DPA and BAA negotiations, product and privacy contract terms, marketing compliance, patent review, litigation holds, records retention, and internal legal guidance.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one US state.
• 5–8 years of substantive privacy, product-counseling, and regulatory experience, ideally combining technology or privacy law firm experience with in-house SaaS or technology experience.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, privacy-by-design principles, and cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
• Experience advising Product and Engineering teams and translating complex legal requirements into actionable guidance.
• Experience supporting incident response and breach notification under US state laws and/or GDPR.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the EU AI Act, US state AI legislation, and FTC priorities.
• Exposure to FCC, TCPA, VoIP, call-recording, or telecom and voice-AI compliance.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or an equivalent privacy certification.
