TL;DR
Associate General Counsel, Privacy, Cybersecurity & AI Governance (Automotive/Connected Vehicles): Building global privacy, cybersecurity, and AI governance programs for connected electric vehicles with an accent on data protection, vehicle cybersecurity, and emerging AI regulation. Focus on designing scalable legal frameworks, advising engineering and product teams, and establishing privacy-by-design, secure software, and responsible AI practices.

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; based at the hirify.global corporate headquarters with 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings, events, and occasional business travel are required.

Salary: $200,000–$245,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

hirify.global is developing electrified, digitized pickup trucks and rugged SUVs, including all-electric and range-extender powertrains.

What you will do

  • Serve as the lead legal subject matter expert for privacy, cybersecurity, and AI governance.
  • Build and manage global privacy programs covering governance, policies, consumer privacy, data transfers, connected vehicles, telematics, over-the-air updates, and backend data processing.
  • Develop legal frameworks for automotive cybersecurity aligned with ISO/SAE 21434, NIST, and UNECE WP.29 requirements.
  • Advise engineering, product, IT, security, commercial, and R&D teams on secure software development, vulnerability management, incident response, and regulatory compliance.
  • Design and manage an enterprise AI governance program covering policies, vendor and use-case reviews, risk assessments, training, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Build and lead a team while advising senior leadership and translating complex regulations into actionable requirements.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in AI, privacy, cybersecurity, and/or technology law.
  • Experience building or scaling AI, privacy, or cybersecurity programs and advising on product counseling in a technology-driven environment.
  • Strong knowledge of global data protection laws, cybersecurity regulatory frameworks, and emerging AI regulations.
  • Experience building and leading teams of professionals and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to work 4–5 days per week at the Charlotte headquarters and travel occasionally for company events.

Nice to have

  • Experience in automotive, mobility, IoT, or connected-device industries.
  • Experience with ISO/SAE 21434 and UNECE WP.29 vehicle cybersecurity standards.
  • Experience with AI/ML governance frameworks and emerging regulation.
  • CIPP, CIPM, CISSP, or similar certification.
  • Experience in a startup or high-growth environment.
