Automation Engineer (Mechanical Systems & Integration)

Location: Hybrid role based in Methuen, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $75,000–$110,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, specify, and integrate automated mechanical systems, including motion systems, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, conveyors, part handling solutions, and machine subsystems.
• Develop machine concepts, layouts, and detailed designs using SolidWorks.
• Select and integrate motors, actuators, gearboxes, linear motion components, bearings, sensors, pneumatics, and safety devices.
• Support design reviews, prototyping, assembly, startup, commissioning, verification, and troubleshooting.
• Design and execute experiments, prototypes, and proof-of-concept studies for automation technologies and manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with system design, controls, robotics, manufacturing, and automation professionals across global production sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing automated manufacturing systems.
• Experience integrating and troubleshooting sensors, vision systems, pneumatic and hydraulic components, variable frequency drives, robots, and servo motors.
• Ability to create and read electrical schematics, design control panels, and implement industrial safety circuits.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts, project status, and troubleshooting activities to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Some positions may require U.S. person status because of ITAR or EAR-controlled goods and technologies.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, SCADA, and MES.
• Experience designing experiments, analyzing quantitative data, and making engineering recommendations.
