Automation Engineer (Machine Vision & Inspection)

Location: Hybrid role based in Methuen, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $75,000–$110,000 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

• Design and implement machine vision systems for identifying, inspecting, measuring, and evaluating high-precision parts and assemblies.
• Select and integrate industrial cameras, lenses, optics, lighting, and image acquisition hardware.
• Develop inspection applications with commercial vision platforms, custom software tools, traditional image processing, and AI/deep learning where appropriate.
• Support robotic guidance, alignment, inspection, and measurement using 2D and 3D vision technologies.
• Integrate vision systems with robots, industrial networks, HMIs, SCADA, MES, and manufacturing databases.
• Support startup, validation, commissioning, troubleshooting, data collection, traceability, and continuous improvement for automated machine solutions.

Requirements

• BS degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is required; a master's degree in computer vision or image processing is strongly preferred.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing vision systems in an industrial clean-manufacturing environment.
• Expertise in vision hardware integration and core techniques including filtering, blob analysis, edge detection, pattern matching, OCR, and 2D/3D code reading.
• Experience with Cognex VisionPro/In-Sight, Keyence XG-X, OpenCV, and programming in Python, C++, or C#.
• Experience with fiducial-based alignment, position correction, part localization, industrial networking, SCADA, MES, databases, data pipelines, SQL, Power BI/Fabric, Python, or AWS.
• Candidates are generally required to reside in a state where MKS is registered to do business; certain positions may require U.S.-person status because of ITAR or EAR-controlled technologies.
