TL;DR
Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Inspection & Converting) (AI): Developing and deploying automated inspection, machine vision, and smart converting systems for manufacturing operations with an accent on roll-good defect detection, cut planning, recipe management, and closed-loop process control. Focus on integrating inspection data with automated slitters, optimizing production systems, troubleshooting deployed equipment, and scaling reliable manufacturing technology across sites.

Location: Maplewood, Minnesota, US; onsite at the hirify.global Center 4 days per week. Travel may include up to 25% in the US and internationally, primarily to manufacturing locations.

Salary: $98,964–$120,957 annually, including base pay and variable incentive pay where eligible.

What you will do

  • Design, integrate, commission, and support smart slitting and converting systems using upstream web inspection data.
  • Translate inspection data into roll mapping, defect classification, cut planning, recipe management, and process-control strategies.
  • Develop automated inspection solutions using optics, machine vision, image processing, data analytics, and AI/machine learning.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, process engineering, controls, quality, operations, and equipment suppliers.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize production systems, perform upgrades, train operators, and improve system reliability.
  • Standardize and scale smart converting technologies across manufacturing platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience with automated inspection, machine vision, smart converting, automated slitting, or related systems.
  • Experience with converting processes such as roll-good handling, slitting, rewinding, and web handling.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, motion control, sensors, machine vision hardware, industrial networking, and manufacturing data systems.
  • Experience with image processing, signal processing, optics, lighting, camera selection, opto-mechanical design, software development, electronics, or industrial networking.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Advanced technical expertise equivalent to a master’s degree or higher in a related technical discipline.
  • Experience defining technical requirements, developing project plans, and contributing to technology roadmaps.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, networking, and leadership skills.
