Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op

Location: On-site in Aurora, Illinois, United States; production-floor work requires standing, sitting, walking, and PPE use. Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., from January through June 2027.

Salary: $20–$30 per hour, depending on qualifications and skills.

What you will do

• Support manufacturing engineering for the Pads business unit across milling, lamination, surfacing, grooving, and finishing processes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and OEE projects by identifying losses, running trials, and implementing countermeasures on the production floor.
• Collect and analyze process and quality data to troubleshoot issues, quantify opportunities, and support root-cause investigations.
• Help evaluate and implement equipment, tooling, and manufacturing technologies, including documentation, work instructions, and operator training.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams, and present project results to Pads leadership.
• Document outcomes and deliver a final presentation covering results, cost savings, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, AI, Robotics, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Interest in manufacturing processes, innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to leadership.
• Comfort with data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, Power BI, or similar.
• Must be available for the full January–June 2027 co-op assignment and meet university co-op participation requirements.

Nice to have

• Lean or Six Sigma experience.
• CAD exposure.
• Coursework or interest in data and AI applications in manufacturing.
• Relevant focus in data analytics, smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0, digital manufacturing, mechatronics, controls, robotics, process systems engineering, or intelligent systems.
