TL;DR
Manager, TOE (Automotive): Leading Technical Office of Engineering teams responsible for R&D, manufacturing industrialization, engineering change management, launch support, and component quality for electric trucks and rugged SUVs with an accent on production readiness, supplier coordination, and cross-functional execution. Focus on developing engineers, resolving build and manufacturing issues, managing program risks, and optimizing cost, quality, and production efficiency.

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, United States. The role requires 4–5 days per week in the office, regular in-person meetings and events, and approximately 20% domestic travel.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead, mentor, hire, and develop engineers in the Technical Office of Engineering supporting R&D functions at the production center.
  • Manage industrialization of new models, including design for manufacturing, product adaptations, and production workflow coordination.
  • Lead engineering change management, production-impact evaluations, build documentation, and plant implementation.
  • Support root-cause analysis, quality improvements, supplier coordination, component evaluation, testing, validation, and launch builds.
  • Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities while reducing scrap and rework.
  • Develop engineering plans, technology roadmaps, and risk-mitigation strategies while collaborating across production, quality, purchasing, finance, product management, and R&D.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of automotive engineering or manufacturing experience within an OEM or Tier-1 supplier.
  • 4+ years in a management role with direct reports and proven experience leading engineers or technical teams.
  • Experience developing components from concept through production release.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes, supplier management, design reviews, PPAP, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Proficiency with CAD systems such as CATIA, Teamcenter, or similar; a valid driver’s license is required.
